When the going gets tough

It’s been six months since I launched LG WordCraft, and let me tell you, it’s been rough. I’m still in the very early stages, trying to get the word out about my business and find clients. To avoid specifics, there have been quite a few things that haven’t panned out the way I hoped, and when that happens, it’s easy to fall into that pit of self-doubt – that nagging little voice in your head that tells you, “You’re better than this.”

It happens to all of us from time to time – that moment when your steadfast confidence in yourself turns into a question mark. What’s going on here? Is it me? Am I not good enough? You’ve got two choices when this happens: give up or buck up. Guess which one I’m going to opt for?

That’s right, I’m not taking the escape hatch on this one. That would be the easier thing to do, for sure, but it’s not the road worth taking. I’m going to choose to keep going and pick myself back up.

To kick-start myself, I’m choosing to remind myself of how far I’ve already come. Even though it feels like I haven’t accomplished much yet, that’s not the fact of the matter. I heeded a call I’ve felt for years, and I acted on it. I decided I was going to stop just dreaming about it and finally started to do it. I created my own website, wrote my own web copy, developed my first blog and even had a custom logo designed that accurately characterizes my vision for LG WordCraft (thank you Kayla Louise Design!). I took a proofreading course crafted by a nationally acclaimed entrepreneur and proofreader and joined a community of others like me that will stop at nothing to achieve their dream of becoming a freelance proofreader. I’ve done all of this within six months, and that was no small feat.

And end of self-pep talk. I still have a long way to go, and I need to work up some fresh motivation and get back on the horse. To anyone who’s made it to the end of this post, I want to thank you. Thank you for taking a few minutes out of your day to read these words and share in my journey. This simple act means so much to me. Of course, if you have any encouraging words to offer me about proofreading/editing, marketing or just plain life advice, that would be the cherry on top.

I love reading anything you write! You are blessed with a strong will from your dad and an extra dose of “don’t give up” from your mom. You ARE doing this!! ~~ Kathy
