Launching my own freelance venture is something I’ve wanted to do for awhile but didn’t quite have the courage to follow through with. Why? Because I am a perfectionist. One classic tendency of a perfectionist is to shut down before even starting something, usually because that task is too overwhelming or involved.
I’ve learned a lot about managing my perfectionist fears over the years, though, and I now realize that you can’t accomplish anything if you don’t try, let alone do something great. It’s about putting yourself out there, saying ‘Here’s what I have to offer’ and rolling with the punches. Of course, there will be a learning curve. I don’t expect it to be easy; I know it may be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But I owe it to myself to try. I know I have talents I can use to help others, and I’m ready to let people know that.
